　　以青年学生为主导的五四爱国运动(the patriotic May 4thMovement)发生于1919年的5月4日的北京，并迅速转变成全国范围的革命运动。中国工人阶级作为政治舞台上的一支独立力量首次被唤醒。如今，五四运动已作为光辉的一页载入了中华民族的史册(annals)。五四运动绝不仅仅是一个历史事件，它表现出青年人关注国家前途和命运的一种精神，并显示出青年人的责任、使命以及对民族炽热的爱。

　　Taking place on May 4th, 1919 in Peking, thepatriotic May 4th Movement, conducted mainly bythe young students, quickly became a nation-widerevolutionary movement. For the first time, theChinese working class was awakened as an independent force in the political stage. Today, theMay 4th Movement as a glorious page has been included in the annals of the Chinese nation.The May 4th Movement is much more than a historical case; it is a spirit showing the youngpeople's concern about the future and destiny of the country,and manifesting the youngpeople's responsibility and mission as well as their fiery love towards the nation.

　　1.发生于…并转变成…:原文中句子较长，且修饰语很多，但前后句的主语统一，所以在翻译时可将汉语中的“主谓结构”转换成英语中的“从属结构”，可译为taking place...became...这种结构。

　　2.载入…史册:可译为be included in the annals,还可译为be written

　　into the annals of history或者go down in history。

　　3.青年人关注国家前途和命运的一种精神:可译为a spirit showing the young people's concern aboutthe future and destiny of the country,把“关注”由动词转化为名词进行翻译。词性转换的应用，可减少句子的复杂性，体现句式的变化。

　　4.显示出青年人的责任、使命:翻译为manifest the young people's responsibility and mission。

　　5.炽热的爱:可译为fiery love,也可翻译为passionate love。
