　　1 Building Your Own House

　　2 An elderly carpenter was ready to retire after years of work.

　　3 He told his employer-contractor of his plans

　　4 to leave the house-building business

　　5 to live a more leisurely life with his wife

　　6 and enjoy his extended family.

　　7 He would miss the paycheck each week,

　　8 but he wanted to retire.

　　9 With the money the carpenter had put aside

　　10 during the years he worked for the employer-contractor,

　　11 they could get by.

　　12 The contractor was very sorry to see his good worker go

　　13 and asked if he could possibly build just one more house

　　14 as a personal favor for him.

　　15 The carpenter said yes,

　　16 but over time it was easy to see

　　17 that his heart was not in his work at all.

　　18 He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials.

　　19 You see, it was an unfortunate way to end a dedicated career.

　　20 When the carpenter finished his work,

　　21 his employer came to inspect the house.
