　　在中国，女性传统上在结婚时保留自己的姓氏，而且法律允许孩子随母亲或父亲的姓氏命名，但绝大多数婴儿都会随父亲的姓氏。孩子是随父亲还是母亲的姓氏，对于妇女，尤其是农村地区的女性，意义非凡。在那些地方，通常由男人来继承家业并延续家族的姓氏。现在，让孩子姓母亲的姓在城市中越来越受到关注，这与以往根深蒂固的家庭传统大有不同。这一新做法标志着夫妻之间"权力关系"的转移。传递姓氏的妇女要么比丈夫挣得更多，要么来自富有或有权势的娘家。

　　In China, women traditionally retain their surname at marriage and the law allows children to be named after the mother or father, but the vast majority of babies adopt their father’s surname. Whether a child carries the father’s or mother’s surname is of great significance to women, particularly those in rural areas, where men overwhelmingly inherit the family’s wealth because they are viewed as heirs who keep the family name. Now, giving the mother’s surname to a child is gaining attraction in cities, which is quite different from deeply entrenched traditional families. The new practice signals the shifting “power relations” between husbands and wives in China. Women who pass on their family names either earn more than their husbands or come from families with more wealth or powerful social networks.
